Voting open for Radio 3 Listeners' Award

Voting is now underway for the 2008 BBC Radio 3 Listeners' Award for the artist judged to have made the greatest contribution to classical music broadcasting during the last year. This is the only category in the Royal Philharmonic Society's Music Awards to be voted for by the public.

The nominations are: the conductors Jiri Belohavek and Mark Elder, the singers Christine Brewer, Alice Coote and Mark Padmore, cellist Steven Isserlis, pianists Steven Osborne and Llyr Williams, viola player Lawrence Power, and jazz pianist Gwilym Simcock. Mr Belohlavek, who has recorded several discs with Chandos, has been nominated for his hugely successful first season with the BBCSO, during which critics and the public alike realise just how good the BBCSO actually is! Ms Brewer, who starred in Chandos's Fidelio (CHAN 3123(2)) and Vanessa (CHSA 5032(2)), is nominated for her 'stunning' Brunnhilde at the 2007 Proms. Mark Padmore who appears in Chandos's Schubert Mass, due out in March, appeared in some memorable performances at the Proms (including Schubert Mass)

Vote, either on-line at www.prsmusicawards.com, on the Radio 3 website or by phone on 08700 100 300. Closes on 14 March.
