Chandos heads over to the US of A to carry on our 30th anniversary celebrations

In the spectacular surrounding of the Steinway Hall and hosted by the eminent, Christine Brewer our American distributor, Naxos of America and Chandos jointly hosted this celebration for the great and good of the North American music industry.

The event seemed to be a great success and an opportunity for both established artists and recent incumbants to mix.  In fact some established artists on the label such as Tempeste di Mare had never met the Chandos Directors before!  It especially proved a showcase for recent artists on the Chandos label - pianist Philip Fisher and violinst Joanna Kurkowicz, who dazzled the audience.

What a great way to begin closing off this 30th anniversary year!

Hear are a few photos from the evening.

Ways not to die! Thanks to Classic FM

A short article in this month's Classic FM caught my eye.

Gone but not forgotten! How the great composers died.

1. Henry Purcell who died from a chill after his wife locked him out because he was late coming home. Let that be a warning to us all!

2. Charles-Valentin Alkan was crushed to death beneath a large umbrella stand. How grizzly! Rain has never seemed so good!

The star-studded event took place yesterday lunchtime at The Dorchester Hotel on Park Lane with an incredibly strong list of contenders for all the awards. Congratulations go to ECM on taking Label of the Year, in this their 40th anniversary year, and also to The Sixteen for Artist of the Year.

Chandos shared in the celebration, taking the Instrumental Award for Jean-Efflam Bavouzet's fourth volume of his Debussy cycle. CHAN 10497.

Watch out for photos from the ceremony which will be added soon.
